EWOB European Bluegrass Pioneer Award 2001

Since 1999, the EWOB - European Band of the Year Award has been awarded by the audience to the three most popular European Bands performing at the European World Of Bluegrass festival. This Award has been given to honor the achievements of bands like Relief (2x), Nugget, Lilly of the West, Bluegrass Stuff, Monogram, Country Bandists, Lusatian Grass, Downhill, 4 Wheel Drive and the Petr Brandejs Band.
In 2001, for the first time a new EWOB Award was presented, the EWOB - European Bluegrass Pioneer Award. This EWOB Award recognises the true European Bluegrass Pioneers, the men and women that stood at the cradle of the Bluegrass Music in Europe. Without them, the European World Of Bluegrass would not have been what it is today.

During the 4th EWOB - European World Of Bluegrass 2001 festival, the European Bluegrass Pioneer Award was presented for the first time. The person recognised as one of the true pioneers in the European Bluegrass World and the first one to receive the award was Mr. Jan 'Honza' Macák, musician and for 30 years the organiser of the famous 'Banjo Jamboree' Bluegrass festival from Kopidlno in the Czech Republic.
