New River Train

The New River Train - since 1993 together again. The  beginning of the band we find  in the early eighties in Czechoslovakia. The fascination of some tapes with American bluegrass music was the reason for five teenagers to start a bluegrass band and make their way to the top of the bluegrass scene  in the Czechoslovakia.
1983 the fiddle player, Milan Kalcu, left the country and moved to Austria. The banjo player, Mojmir „Taras" Sevcik, followed him in 1989. The both have been playing bluegrass and country music in Austria since 1989. Milan Kalcu was honured from ACMF (Austrian Country Music Federation) with the award of „The musician of the year" in 1993. His succes as a fiddle player for the Lewis Niderman Band and his activities in the cajun music are well known in Austria.
After the fall of iron curtain in 1989, the meeting of the old music friends was only a question of time.

Since 1993 New River Train has been playing constantly. Both Kalcu and Sevcik became Austrians whilst the three others are now able to commute wherever the gig takes them. The band has been going through a lot of concerts and and festivals in Austria, Germany  Czech republic, Holland ans Switzerland. Sharing the stage with Tony Trischla (USA), Radim Zenkl (USA), Foxfire (USA) or Blue Highway (USA) in August 1998 count to the highlights of the carreer of New River Train.
